University of Kisubi Sports Tutor Edwards Mugyenyi has called on the public to come and witness Uganda's young sporting talents as they host the 18th AUUS Inter-University Games that start today at the University sports ground with an opening ceremony.

Mugyenyi was speaking to the New Vision during the reporting day of institutions that have confirmed their participation in the event that will have close to 3000 young talents showcasing their talents.

"We are happy to be hosting this event for the first time and in the same way we call upon the public to come and witness tomorrow's sports superstars in action. At least 3000 participants are taking part which shows how talented Ugandans are," said Mugyenyi.

Mugyenyi also confirmed that outgoing State Minister for Sports Charles Bakkabulindi will be guest of honor at the opening ceremony.

"The competitions will be flagged off by Bakabulindi today afternoon which will also give us chance to interact with the minister and other government officials on sports and solicit funds to improve our sports facility," Mugyenyi added.

Male competitors will be housed at St Mary's College Kisubi while their female counterparts will be St. Savio Junior School. Officials will stay in UNIK's recently completed Notre Dame Hostel.

UNIK is in itself not able to solely host the game hence it's teaming up with SMACK, St Savio, St Joseph's Technical and Kisubi Seminary to house the competitions favorably.

The competition disciplines include athletics, badminton, basketball, chess, darts, karate, netball, rugby, handball, swimming, taekwondo, volleyball, beach volleyball, woodball, table tennis, and tennis.

The Entebbe cricket oval will host athletics while the Entebbe hall will host badminton and table tennis games.
