KAMPALA - Electoral Commission (EC) Chairperson, Justice Simon Byabakama has said they are considering making special arrangements to enable students in public higher institutions to vote within their institutions.

"I got reports that whenever there're elections, most of the students do not participate because that is the period examinations are conducted. But I am going to meet with my technical team and make a special arrangement to ensure that these students participate in the voting exercise," he said.

The lecture organised at the university main campus was graced by the government spokesperson Ofwono Opondo, Busiro East MP Medard Ssegona, and political activist Crispy Kaheeru, among others.

Byabakama said EC launched the election roadmap last year in order to expedite the electoral process including enabling political parties to conduct their in-house electoral activities.

He urged political parties to play the lead role in rallying people or their supporters to participate in the ongoing voter register update exercise.
