One of the teachers under investigation was identified as Felix Tuhairwe, a teacher at St Peters Nsambya who allegedly defiled a 10-year-old pupil of the same school.

The Police are investigating two other primary teachers over aggravated defilement.

This comes a week after President Yoweri Museveni ordered for fresh investigations into the alleged defilement of nine students of Wamala Mixed Secondary School in Mpigi district by the school director.

One of the teachers under investigation was identified as Felix Tuhairwe, a teacher at St Peters Nsambya.

Addressing journalists at the Police's weekly press briefing at Central Police Station in Kampala, the deputy Police spokesperson, Polly Namaye, said Tuhairwe, 35, is being investigated by a team from the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) over aggravated defilement.

Namaye said the suspect, also a resident of the staff quarters at the school, allegedly defiled a 10-year-old pupil of the same school.

She said the investigations, including medical examinations and forensic procedures, have been done and the files submitted to the Director of Public Prosecution (DPP) for further guidance.

She said investigators are also probing another case of aggravated defilement at King Fahad Primary School, where one of the teachers is suspected to have sodomised a five-year-old and the file has also been sent to the DPP.

Efforts to speak to the suspected teachers were futile as New Vision could not find their contact phone numbers.

When contacted, the headteacher of King Fahad, only identified as Halima, declined to comment, saying the case is already under investigation.

The headteacher St Peters Nsambya, said: "It is an old story. The Police is investigating it and I have nothing to comment about it".

Mpigi suspect on the run

Namaye said the Police are also still looking for Asadu Wamala, the director of the Wamala SS in Mpigi for allegedly defiling nine of his students.

"He is in hiding. We are working with the public so that we arrest the suspect and charge him using new evidence. He either turns himself in or we shall get him," Namaye said.

Asadu Wamala

The girls, aged between 14 and 17 years, claim Wamala had access to their dormitory and repeatedly abused them.

It is also alleged that the suspect would randomly pick girls and take them to his house which is near the school. At times he would also allegedly sneak them out of school for sexual orgies in Kampala.

Namaye said Wamala had been arrested on a different charge of indecent assault and was later released on bail.

"He was charged with indecent assault basing on the evidence that we had at

the time. The case involved a 17-year-old student. He was taken to court and granted bail, but later, we got information that not only had the student been assaulted, but also defiled," Namaye noted.

She said they later launched another investigation of the defilement, thus realising that Wamala is the owner of the school with homes in Nsanji, Nabingo, Namagoma, Mpigi town and Kazinga in Kyengera.

Namaye said investigations show that the suspect committed the defilement before November 11.

"It is believed that students reported a week after the indecent assault and the defilement had taken place. We also realised there were eight other victims. This makes our investigation broad," she added.

However, a source from Police, who preferred anonymity, alleged that there was an exchange of money in the case.

Namaye said investigators on the case are backtracking it to identify whoever handled the case and why they charged him with indecent assault.

Last week, the President protested the manner in which Wamala was released by the Mpigi magistrate Maureen Mukayo and ordered a State House team to follow up the matter
