The memorial mass was presided over by the parish priest, the Rt Rev Msgr Gerald Kalumba, who urged the current choristers to emulate the values that their deceased colleagues demonstrated.

KAMPALA - Christ the King Church Choir, which leads the singing during the 10 o'clock mass at Christ the King Church, Kampala, has commemorated its deceased members, who ministered with the choir since its establishment in 1935.

Those who were remembered and prayed for during a special memorial mass at Christ the King Church, Kampala include Valerian Mayega (first Ugandan organist and music director), Aloysius Darlington Lubowa (first Ugandan conductor), Pantaleo Babinaga, Melanie Betubiza, Mathias Lutaaya, Blaise Ishungisa, Tony Sengo (organist), Francis Waddimba, Henry Kabuye, Josephine Luyima, Florence Sebalu, Margaret Kabasiita, Mary Wandera, Gertrude Ntege, Rose Namukasa, Agnes Yaniju, Maria Sebina and Rose Rwego Sibo.

Others are Mary Ssali, Pamela Lwanga Zaake, George Mugisha, Theresa Pule, Alice Ndikutuusa, John Menya Ochieng, Canis Mulindwa, Eva Seruyange, Joseph Lukwago, Jane Kayanja, Deogratias Kibuuka, Beav Mubiru, Raymond Bogere, Richard Kimuli, Engineer Wasanyi Serukenya, Betty Kigundu, Jane Francis Nango and Susan Lutwama.

The memorial mass was presided over by the parish priest, the Rt Rev Msgr Gerald Kalumba, who urged the current choristers to emulate the values that their deceased colleagues demonstrated.

Mass was also concelebrated by Fr Kazibwe, a son of organist Valerian Mayega, who himself is an accomplished organist.
