One dead,13 survive Mabra accident

One person died while 13 escaped death in a motor accident that occurred in Mabira forest along Jinja-Kampala highway in Buikwe district.




One person died while 13 escaped death in a motor accident that occurred in Mabira forest along Jinja-Kampala highway in Buikwe district.

The commuter taxi registration No UBF705F, coming from Jinja, heading to Kampala overturned after its tyre burst.

The victims whose property included animals and birds were rushed to Kawolo Hospital. Their animals, some of which survived with no injury, were taken to Mabira police station as investigations begin.   


Suman Tamale, a survivor said he boarded the taxi in Namutumba, heading to Namanve to sell his birds.

One of the eye witnesses revealed that the taxi was speeding, plus the driver wanted to overtake a trailer.

Some of the survivors include Joseph Sajja, JohnBosco Lubega, Stanley Kirinale, Harriet Nabukeera  , Juliet Nankuba, Catherine Nakimuli, Lydia Kabuyanga, Simon Wanyama, Suman Tamale.

A family of three, including a four-month-old baby Christopher Mugiri,  Azenathe Namumbya (mother), Azena Ibra Kyatelekela (father), survived.

 

The deceased only identified as Nuhu Kasozi, was a resident of Bbina A -Butabika in Kampala district.

 

The Ssezibwa region police publicist, Hellen Butoto, said the actual number of passengers who were in the taxi, is not yet confirmed.
