KAMPALA - Plans are underway to renovate the official residence of the Archbishop of the Church of Uganda at Namirembe Cathedral ahead of the consecration of the Archbishop-elect, Samuel Stephen Kaziimba Mugalu on March 1 (2019).
Minor renovations will also be done on Namirembe Cathedral, where the consecration ceremony will take place.
This has been revealed by the Chairperson of the National Organizing Committee, the Rt Hon Ruth Nankabirwa.
"Archbishop-elect Kaziimba will be leaving Mityana on December 21. But we need to renovate the palace in Namirembe. So, we have to find a good house where our dear father in God will stay during that time. On the other hand, we cannot let Archbishop Ntagali go to his retirement home in Hoima before March 1 because there are still many official functions he must preside over before his successor takes up the office. So, we must also find a house for him."
Meanwhile, the Greater Kampala organizing committee, which Bishop Kaziimba launched at the Imperial Royale Hotel last week has started doing its work. City tycoon Godfrey Kirumira is the Chairman of the Committee.
"We have started mobilising for funds mainly from our friends in the business community and other people of goodwill. Certainly, we shall accomplish our task."
According to the Chairman of the Central Organizing Committee, John Fredrick Kiyimba Freeman, about sh1.5bn is needed to organise the ceremony.
