Uganda's Vice Presidents over the years: John Babiiha

Following the abolition of traditional institutions in 1967, John Babiiha found himself at the centre of mainstream politics as Uganda’s first Republican Vice President
April 1966 to January 1971 John Babiiha was born on April 17, 1913, in Toro, western Uganda He was Vice President, under the Uganda Peoples' Congress (UPC) government led by Apollo Milton Obote.
He also served as the Minister of Animal Resources from 1967-1971 in the same UPC regime.
John Babiiha, Felix Rwambarari, Milton Obote, Sam Odaka and others were the founding members of the UPC party in 1959.
Following the abolition of traditional institutions in 1967, John Babiiha found himself at the centre of mainstream politics as Uganda's first Republican Vice President replacing the Kyabazinga, William Wilberforce Nadiope.
On December 19, 1969, when President Obote was injured in an assassination attempt, John Babiiha temporarily assumed control of government and declared a national state of emergency.
Babiiha died in March 1982.
