Members during their Annual General Assembly held in Kampala urged the government to protect the rights of citizens.

Uganda Sports Press Association (USPA) members have condemned the Police and other armed forces brutality on journalists conducting their duties.

Members during their Annual General Assembly held in Kampala urged the government and its security agents including the Police and army to protect the rights of citizens and provide a conducive working environment for the media instead of battering them.

"We are much concerned with the infringement on the freedoms of the journalists while conducting our duties. We are there to serve the nation and keep the citizens of this nation informed. So any act that bars the journalists from conducting their roles must be condemned," USPA president Patrick Kanyomozi said.

The assembly later voted athlete Joshua Cheptegei as the Nile Special USPA Sports Personality of the month of October 2019.

Cheptegei won the 2019 10,000m World Championship race.

The members also commended Joseph Cwanyai ai for winning the Kinyara Golf open, Rower Kathleen Nobble for qualifying for the Tokyo 2020 Olympics and Pool Queens for winning the All Africa Chinese Ball Pool Championship.

USPA activities are supported by Nile Special, City Tyres, Standard Chartered Bank and KCCA FC.
