The 2019 Primary Leaving Examinations (PLE)  kicked off Monday across the country.

According to the Uganda National Examinations Board (UNEB), a total of 695,700 candidates have written their final papers.

The action started in the morning where candidates sat for Mathematics and Social Studies in the afternoon.

There were some interruptions from different sitting centers as they received exams late.

However, in some schools, exams reached early. Davis Nuwamanya, the headmaster of Jill and Jack Nursery and Primary school said the exams reached in time.

"We don't have any complaints at the moment, the exams reached here in time and all our candidates are present," Nuwamanya said.

The exercise will continue on Tuesday when candidates are expected to end their papers with Science in the morning and English in the afternoon.

There have been reports of some candidates missing exams because their school directors did not register them in some centres, but those were isolated cases, according to UNEB.
