Besigye detained in Naggalama

Besigye, Onyango said defied police orders and parked his vehicle in the middle of the road, blocking and inconveniencing other road users. The car was towed away and was taken to Nagalama police station.

FDC         ARREST

The Police have confirmed the arrest of former presidential candidate, Dr. Col. Kizza Besigye.

In a statement issued this afternoon, police confirmed that Besigye is detained at Nagalama Police Station in Wakiso district.

 

Besigye, together with FDC leaders, was arrested after police foiled a scheduled meeting by the leaders of the Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) at Namboole National Stadium.

 
The Kampala Metropolitan Police Spokesperson, Patrick Onyango in a statement admitted that Police had been informed of the FDC's intended anniversary celebrations. "But we wrote back to them advising that they should shift venue, but they ignored our directive," Onyango said.

At the moment no charges have been preferred against him. But investigators are still gathering evidence.

 
The party was expected to agree resolutions prop up the party's 2021 general elections campaign agenda. The meeting was also intended at celebrating the 20 years of the party's existence.
