In a show of solidarity, the Guild Presidents Association has backed their fellow student leaders at Makerere University to demand the institution to listen to students demands over the fees structure.
They have petitioned the Speaker of Parliament to intervene in Makerere University's woes as the strike continues following the impasse.
The petition demands for reinstatement of suspended students, inquiry on how the vice-chancellor, Barnabas Nawangwe, is running the university, withdraw of the army from the instituition and that the fees increment be halted, among others.
The petition has been received by MP John Baptist Nambeshe (Manjiya County) on behalf of the Speaker of Parliament.
But earlier, Makerere University ruled out removing the 15% tuition fees increment, saying it was agreed on by the students leadership.

2:25pm | Makerere mantains 15% fees increment
By Miriam Namutebi:
Makerere University has ruled out removing the 15% tuition fees increment, saying it was agreed on by the students leadership.
According to the acting vice-chancellor, Dr. Umar Kakumba, the university has not in any way increased fees for its students, noting that the purported 15% fees increment is a five-year fees policy which was approved by the university council on recommendation of the student guild cabinet.
Moving forward, the university has announced that it will maintain the 15% for the next five years. Meanwhile, the university adminstration is set to meet the student's leadership for more dialogue.

2:00pm | Bobi Wine trial pushed to December
By Michael Odeng & Farooq Kasule:
Buganda Road Chief Magistrates Court has deferred the hearing of a case in which Kyadondo East MP Robert Kyagulanyi (Bobi Wine) is accused of holding an illegal protest.
Grade One Magistrate Esther Nahirya on Monday adjourned the case until December 12, after one of Bobi Wine's co-accused was a no-show in court.
This is the second time the case has failed to kick off, despite witnesses being produced in court. The first time, Bobi Wine did not turn up in court and today's it was his co-accused, David Lule.
During the trial, State Attorney Barbra Kyomugisha will prosecute the case while over six lawyers led by Asuman Basalirwa will defend Kyagulanyi and four others.
Bobi Wine is facing the charge of disobedience of statutory duty together with his brother Fred Nyanzi Ssentamu, his bodyguard Edward Sebufu alias Eddie Mutwe, David Lule and Julius Katongole.
They are battling the charges under Section 116 of the Penal Code Act (PCA). The offence attracts a maximum sentence of two years imprisonment on conviction.
The charge stems from his 2018 protests against social media and mobile money charges, introduced by the government to raise the tax base.
All the accused were in court apart from Lule, who was reported indisposed.
Prosecution alleges that the accused and others still at large on July 11, 2018 at Constitutional Square in Kampala disobeyed provisions of the Public Order Management Act by holding a public meeting without giving notice to any authorised officer.
It further alleges that the accused refused to co-ordinate and co-operate with Police to ensure that all participants in the demonstration were unarmed and peaceful.

Losing a baby in pregnancy through miscarriage or stillbirth is still a taboo subject worldwide, linked to stigma and shame, says the World Health Organisation (WHO).
Many women still do not receive appropriate and respectful care when their baby dies during pregnancy or childbirth, adds the health agency.
Sometimes when a woman finds out her baby has died, she is required to carry the dead baby for several weeks before she can give birth.

10:30am | Bulemeezi edge out Busiro to lift Masaza Cup
The day before, on Saturday, there was a big game, highly anticipated by the local following.
Busiro were taking on Bulemeezi in the Masaza Cup final at Mandela National Stadium, Namboole.
As is typical of this competition's final, the stadium was packed. Kabaka Ronald Muwenda Mutebi II was watching from the stands. It was an air of effervescence. Both sets of supporters were in high spirits. Victory was only 90 minutes away.
But before the big one, there was the little matter of the third-place match that had to be dealt with. Buddu went on to beat Kyadondo 2-1 for the third spot.
Then came the final.
After 90 minutes failed to produce a winner, the tie had to go into extra time, with a penalty shootout highly probable.
But Emmanuel Loki, who is a South Sudanese U-20 player, claimed the plaudits when he pounced three minutes into extra time to score the winning goal.
Check out pictures from the game HERE.

10:15am | Proline pick up vital away point & goals
Uganda Cup defending champions Proline FC were also playing in the Confederation Cup - but miles away from the comfort of home.
They were playing against Libyan side Al-Nasr, who are based in Benghazi. But for security reasons, the tie was played in neighbouring Egypt in the city of Alexandria.
Proline did well, picking up a point and two important away goals in a 2-2 affair.
Moataz Al-Mehdi put the hosts in front after 13 minutes, before Mustafa Mujuzi lashed in the equaliser two minutes before the break. Al-Nasr regained their lead in the 68th minute from the penalty spot, but Bright Anukani ensured that the loot was shared 12 minutes to the end of the game.
And as expected, the Monday morning in the local camp is that of joyful memories. The club has just posted this video from last night's game, showing Mujuzi's sublime free-kick that put the visitors back on level terms in the opening half.
There's no better feeling than waking up to Mustafa Mujuzi's amazing free kick that canceled out El Nasr's first goal.

The winner over the two-legged tie will move on to the group stage, but KCCA did not do themselves any favours when they failed to capitalise on home advantage in a goalless affair at the StarTimes Stadium, Lugogo.
The return leg will be played this Sunday in Algiers. Can the Kasasiro Boys recover?
