Hoima diocese will animate this year's pilgrimage to Namugongo martyrs' shrine. The diocese was selected to lead the pilgrimage on November 10 by the Mbarara Ecclesiastical Province Association.

The association brings together the dioceses under Mbarara ecclesiastical province, comprising Hoima, Fort Portal, Mbarara, Kasese, and Kabale. The ecclesiastical provinces of the Catholic Church make annual pilgrimage to Namugongo each year. They elect a diocese to lead the event each year.

The Hoima diocese bishop, Vincent Kirabo Amooti, will celebrate the mass during the pilgrimage. All parishes in the diocese are engaged in preparations for the success of the pilgrimage.

Tadeo Atuhura, the president of Hoima Diocese External Residents Association, which brings together Christians living outside the diocese, said preparations for the event are in advanced stages.

Atuhura, who is also secretary of the Mbarara ecclesiastical association, said Hoima diocese is blessed to have been elected to lead the pilgrimage to Namugongo in 2019.

"We leading the animation and pilgrimage and we invite everyone from our diocese to come and be part of this occasion. We do this every year. We call upon you to pray for this event. We are going to have all the five dioceses under Mbarara ecclesiastical province congregating at Namugongo for the pilgrimage," he stated.

He urged all Christians living in Hoima and outside to take part in the preparations and make pilgrimage to Namugongo. "We do this every year. The mass will begin at 10:00am and we ask everyone who can to join us. People can contact the parish priests in case they have something to give in support towards this pilgrimage," Atuhura stated.

Annual pilgrimages like the one Hoima diocese is preparing for are different from the Martyrs' day celebrations that take place in the same area every June 3. Hoima diocese animated the 2017 martyrs' day celebrations.
