JINJA - President Yoweri Museveni has underlined his backing of religious freedoms.

He said his government took on a principled stance on the matter, which is one to support all religious beliefs operating lawfully.

Museveni made the remarks as chief guest at the second anniversary of World Revival Centre Church in Jinja on Saturday. He was accompanied the Speaker of parliament, Rebecca Kadaga.

He urged religious tolerance, saying it is wrong to judge faiths, a responsibility he said is a preserve of God.

Saturday's function was also a fundraiser for the construction of a cathedral for the World Revival Centre Church for which the President contributed sh80m.

Pastor Tom Ngobi, who heads the church, thanked government for efforts to build infrastructure and maintain stability.

On her part, Speaker Kadaga said the President's visit was timely.

She told the President of the church's entrepreneurial efforts, adding that they are operating a youth SACCO to fight unemployment. He donated sh20m to the SACCO.
