IAAF WORLD ATHELTICS CHAMPIONSHIPS - DOHA 2019

DOHA - Uganda's Winnie Nanyondo produced the fourth-fastest time across the three heats of the women's 1500m on Wednesday to advance to the semi-final.

Nanyondo, 26, crossed the line in 4:04.04 in Heat 1, the fastest of all the three heats.

But teammate Esther Chebet's time of 4:08.89 did not help her through to the next stage.

In Heat 1, The Netherlands' Sifan Hassan took Heat 1 (4:03.88), ahead of Kenyan Faith Kipyegon (4:03.93), USA's Nikki Hiltz (4:04.00) and Nanyondo.

In Heat 2, Moroccan Rababe Arafi was the first across the finish line with 4:08.32, Winny Chebet of Kenya took second place (4:08.36) while Ethiopian Gudaf Tsegay was third (4:08.39).

Heat 3 was won by American Jenny Simpson (4:07.27), who came through ahead of Canada's Gabriella Debues-Stafford (4:07.28) and Great Britain's Laura Muir (4:07.37).

The first six in each heat qualified automatically and were joined by the next six fastest finishers across the heats. It means Thursday's semi-final (11pm Ugandan time) will feature 24 runners, who have been split into two heats.

Nanyondo, the sole Ugandan rinterest in this discipline, will race in Heat 2.

The first five in each heat and the next two fastest finishers across the two heats will advance to Saturday's final (8.55pm Ugandan time).
