They are taking positives from the teams that accepted the invitations

The Nkumba Volleyball Festival that concluded Sunday afternoon at the Lugogo Arena has the makings of a successful tournament in the future.

Although the turn out for the tournament was not that high, organisers are taking positives from the teams that accepted the invitations especially the select Italian team from Udine that graced the occasion.

"It was a great success especially the gesture by our guest teams travelling all the way just to celebrate with us. They were also able of offering their players an opportunity for exposure through playing with some of the top local teams," Nkumba University technical coach Godwin Ssenyondo said.

A few Ugandan sides took part including Nkumba University, KCCA, KAVC A and Nkumba Navy Veterans that came together to celebrate the institution's 25 years of existence.

"This means a lot to us and the sport at large because it actually means that you don't always have to put a reward in order to attract clubs for a competition," Ssenyondo added.

Many veterans turned up for the Nkumba Ex-Navy match including Tony Lakony, Johnson Kawenyera and Ssenyondo while Peter Buyungo, Levian Asaba and Hamza Lubwama turned up for KAVC veterans.

Cobra Volleyball Club from Sudan was the foreign men's team invited for the tournament and they too did not disappoint. They gave a good account of themselves but they lost to the UCU Doves on Sunday.

The institution has plans to continue the partnership with the teams from Udine as the experience acts as an eye-opener for all that are involved.
