Uganda will be praying that Stella Chesang rediscovers her 2018 form when she lines up for the Doha World Championship 10,000m final tonight.

The Gold Coast Commonwealth Games champion is part of a star cast that should light up Khalifa International stadium at track and field's premier event.

Netherland's Sifan Hassan, Kenya's World Cross Country champion Hellen Obiri, Ethiopia's Letensebet Giddy, and Netsenet Gudet  will be the other big names in the 25 lap race.

Ethiopia's World and Olympic champion Almaz Ayana who underwent double knee surgery in July last year, after making just one outing, recently cast doubts about her title defence in Doha.

Should she not enter the final, then the race will be thrown wide open with gold there for grabs by any of the new emerging stars.

Chesang was recently unimpressive at the Rabat All Africa Games but coach Gordon Ahimbisibwe noted that ever since the team's return from Morocco she has been impressive.

"Write her off at your own peril," stressed Ahimbisibwe from the team's high altitude camp in Kapchorwa.

Uganda is represented by what many have described as the country's strongest team ever to the biennial event.

Joshua Cheptegei, the 2019 world cross country champion, also a 10,000m silver medalist at the last track and field meet's edition in London, leads Uganda's hunt for medals Doha.
