KAMPALA - Are you a regular user of the Namugongo-Seeta road? Or are you planning on plying this route this weekend? If you are, then lean in close and read on with keen interest.

Today (Saturday) and Sunday, traffic along some sections of the Namugongo-Seeta road will be diverted to allow for a planned excavation on the route.

The works involve excavation and laying of water pipes across the usually busy road at Kanisa ya Kristo.

Some parts of the road will therefore be closed to traffic and re-channeled to other routes.

National Water and Sewerage Corporation (NWSC) is laying the pipes for the Katosi-Kampala Drinking Water Transmission Mains, which is meant to supply drinkling water to the inhabitants of Greater Kampala Metropolitan Area.

The water supply and sanitation company has contrated another company to handle the project.

It is hoped that the new plant, once completed, will add over 160 million litres of water to Kampala service area every day to cater for the rising demand for clean water in the area.

Installing of the pipes, according to a statement by NWSC, will be done across the two days, with normal operations taking place at night.

"The excavation works shall be done in three phases to allow proper traffic management and minimise traffic disruptions," the company says.

For users of this road, note that "it will take two nights to install the pipes and backfill the road to make it passable".

"Permanent reinstatement of the road pavement shall be completed within nine working days after the works."

During the actual excavation works across the road, traffic coming in from Ssonde will be diverted to Bbutto Road while that from Seeta will be redirected to Jinja Road.

Traffic flowing from Kyaliwajjala will be rerouted to Kireka-Namugongo Road and Ssemambo Road, near Namugongo Catholic Martyrs' Shrine.

Road users have been urged to "follow the road signs and co-operate with the traffic Police and traffic wardens".
