Army organising title fight for Sebute

Sep 17, 2019

The fight is slated for September 27.

UPDF sports director Col. John Mark Ssemanda has called on Ugandans to throng the Lugogo Indoor Arena to support Ugandan boxer Corporal Abdu Sebute as he takes on Tanzanian Mohamed Swedi in the vacant East and Central Africa title.

The fight is slated for September 27.

Ssemanda told the assembled press that the UPDF has come out to sponsor an international boxing contest in conjunction with local promoter Nara Promotions because they want to groom Sebute who is due to represent the army in the World Military Games in China in November.

"We came into the fight to promote our only professional boxer and also to prepare him for the World Military Games," he said.

Sebute is confident of winning the fight because of the tactics he is receiving from former professional boxer Peter Mulindwa who is based in Italy.

Three regional titles shall be witnessed that evening where local boxers Juma Waiswa will take on John Serunjogi in the middleweight (75kg) category while Musa Ntege will take on Tanzanian Paul Kamatha in the cruiserweight.
