Museveni, First Lady off to South Africa

WORLD ECONOMIC FORUM

President Yoweri Museveni flew out of the country Wednesday, destined for Cape Town, South Africa on an official visit.

During trip, he will attend the 28th World Economic Forum on Africa, which starts today and ends this Friday.

Museveni was accompanied by his wife Janet, who is also the education and sports minister.

They were seen off at Entebbe International Airport by Presidency Minister Esther Mbayo and the head of Public Service, John Mitala.

Others at the airport included Deputy Air Force Commander, Maj. Gen. Garvas Mugyenyi, Deputy Inspector General of Police, Asan Kasingye and Uganda Prisons Services' Acting Director of Human Resource, David Ahimbisibwe.

The meeting will convene 1,100 leaders from 100 countries, representing business, government, academia, civil society, media and the arts.

With elections taking place in more than 20 African countries this year, the continent is facing a new era, the meeting's organisers say.

Significant political and economic progress has been made, but the continent continues to face challenges.

The forum in South Africa will focus on how to scale up the transformation of regional architecture related to smart institutions, investment, integration, industry and innovation.

It is themed: Shaping Inclusive Growth and Shared Futures in the Fourth Industrial Revolution.

The meeting will address the African Union's Agenda 2063 regional strategic priorities under four programme tracks, which are:

• Innovation: Readiness for the Fourth Industrial Revolution

• Cooperation: Sustainable Development & Environmental Stewardship

• Growth: Digitalization & Competitive Industries

• Stability: Leadership & Institutional Governance

The discussions will focus on key industries and build on the launch of the first African Affiliate Centre for the Fourth Industrial Revolution in South Africa, the organisers add.
