Thousands grace 2019 Rotary Cancer Run

Aug 25, 2019

Other parallel runs took place around the country in towns such as Tororo, Entebbe Kumi among others.

Mammoth crowds turned up for the 2019 Rotary Cancer Run at Kololo Ceremonial Grounds as people came together to help raise awareness and funds to combat the scourge.

Speaker of Parliament Rebecca Kadaga flagged off the runners that braved the early morning rain to help raise funds that will build two bunkers that will house two linear accelerators at Nsambya Hospital.

Many who took part in the run had similar reasons for taking part, some more personal than others.

"I am a mother and a woman and you can never know when cancer strikes. Last year I lost a parent to cancer and the pain they went through was too much I would not want to see anyone go through it. So as long as there is a cancer run I will participate for the cause," said Prossy Nakasiita a businesswoman.

"As a Rotarian, we have an obligation to participate in the Cancer Run and because cancer is a problem in Uganda, it has killed very many of our relatives and friends and it's on the rise. I am happy to take part so that we can raise awareness and funds to support those affected and also for my health. I feel I have to improve my health," said Charles Kashungwa a Rotarian.

Based on the numbers alone, the run has grown exponentially and it is firmly on its way to accomplishing the task of raising up to sh30bn.

Parallel runs took place around the country in places like Tororo, Entebbe and Kumi among others.
