KAMPALA - Have you ever imagined the likes of Kenneth Mugabi and Solome Basuta on stage with microphones but for somewhat different reasons? Well, this just happened on Friday night at the theatre La Bonita.

The two songbirds together with seasoned actor Matthew Nabwiso and fashion designer Nina Kebirungi gave theatre fans a night to remember in a musical play dubbed The Bodyguard organized by AMK productions.

The play starts with a talented RnB superstar, Hailey (Solome Basuta) getting a new bodyguard after struggling with unprofessional bodyguards for a long time. The bodyguard was Micheal Ndawula (Matthew Nabwiso).

As the tough but good looking hunk goes about his job, Hailey falls in love with him. However, it should be remembered that she is a star so she had to maintain her pride. Meanwhile, Hailey had a sister, Nakitto (Nina Kebirungi) who was an equally talented musician though not as famous.

The drama starts when Nakitto sets eyes on her sister's new bodyguard, Ndawula. She completely falls for him. Interestingly, the two shortly realize that they know each other from high school and from that, Nakitto's thing for Ndawula goes even deeper.

Unlike her sister, Nakitto without hesitation expressed her love for Ndawula. To clearly pour her heart out for him, Nakitto sings a soft love song for Ndawula to melt his rock hard heart. However, the no-nonsense bodyguard isn't in for that. Nakitto gets rejected.

The drama deepens when it turns out that Kemba (Kenneth Mugabi), Hailey's personal assistant, is in deep love with Nakitto. His problem is confession because he trembles whenever Nakitto passes by.

After stockpiling some confidence, Kemba finally expresses his love for Nakitto through Kenneth Mugabi's Nkwegomba love song. Meanwhile, Hailey is watching her sister melting down in total disbelief as Kemba sings his heart out.

This stimulates Hailey's confidence glands. She immediately runs to Ndawula, her bodyguard, to confess her love for him. Ndawula finally allows to go on a date with Hailey at a Karaoke bar and guess what, Ndawula sings New Edition's Can you stand the rain for Hailey. Hailey and the audience get mind blown by Ndawula's singing prowess.

One would imagine that musical plays are a thing for white folks only. This imagination was censured by the crowd that filled up the auditorium at La Bonita.
