Uganda sends five players to World Para Badminton Championship

The squad departed over the weekend ahead of the five-day event that doubles as a qualifier for the first-ever Paralympic badminton games due Tokyo, Japan next year.

Uganda will be fielding five players at the BWF World Para-Badminton Championship starting August 21 to 25 at St. Jakobshalle in Switzerland.
 
The team of Khadija Khamuka, Elizabeth Mwesigwa, Rose Nansereko, Ritah Asiimwe, and Paddy Kasirye was selected on merit following their performance at the Uganda-International Para-Badminton championship held at Lugogo early this year.
 
"I am confident that Uganda will secure good results from these players," said Uganda Badminton Association (UBA) CEO Simon Mugabi.
 
The squad departed over the weekend ahead of the five-day event that doubles as a qualifier for the first-ever Paralympic badminton games due Tokyo, Japan next year.
 
"Players like Khamuka and Mwesigwa stand high chances of attaining qualification points looking at their latest ranking and we have hope in them," Mugabi added.
 
The Ugandan side will be competing in the Standing Lower (SL4) category, Standing Lower (SL3) and the Wheelchair (WH) categories at the event that has attracted participants from over 50 countries.
