I cried when the scan showed I had twins

Nalongo Sylvia Bangi, a businesswoman and resident of Kiwanga Seeta in Mukono district gave birth to fraternal twins in January 2011 at Kibuli Hospital, Kampala.

"The twins were my second pregnancy after giving birth to a girl who was six years old at the time. When I got pregnant again, I was in and out of hospital compared to my first," Bangi says.

"I kept wondering why this pregnancy had made me so uncomfortable," she adds.

"At five months, I decided to go for a scan to check the size of the foetus and was told that it was a big baby," Bangi says.

At seven months, I felt that the pregnancy was heavier than the first one. This prompted me to go for a medical check-up which involved scanning.

When I learnt that I was carrying twins, I started crying endlessly. I was worried about how I was going to deliver two children at once.

When I told my husband, Salongo Alex Kaddu that I was carrying twins, he was overjoyed saying his father is a twin and most of his aunties and uncles have twins.

He comforted me and told me that all would be well.

Her doctor told Bangi that her pelvic bones were narrow and I could not give birth normally.

So a caesarean section was done at Kibuli Hospital and the twins were put in an incubator for two weeks.

Raising twins
It was not easy to raise the twins because they were in and out of the hospital. Both would both fall sick at the same time.

"The twins cried day and night until they made a year, but Salongo was supportive all the time.

"He would cradle the twins to sleep in the night whenever they cried because during the day he had to go to work.

Kato learnt to sit and crawl faster than Wasswa who followed after a week.

Wasswa loves music, while Kato likes operating electric gadgets.

"I love my twins so much although when the news of having them at first made me sad," Bangi says.
