Our relationship is beyond siblings

Makiika Sarah and Makiika Mariam is a pair of rear twins one can meet. They do not have any similar visible characteristic at all, and they do not use the twins' names despite having them.

"Adding on the twins' names makes our names long, but they are reflected on our academic and legal documents," says Miriam.

She adds that many people think that we are not twins, but such words just always keep our bondage strong.

Kenyan by birth and origin, the Makiika twins have twin names of Mulongo for Nakato and Mukhwana for Babirye respectively.

Sarah says they share everything in life and they even want to get married to fellow twins on the same day and live near each other in life.

"Even if I get a boyfriend, my twin sister must know all that he does with me all the time and I get to know about her too," she says.

She adds that they share everything in life right from clothes, schools, shoes though one of them has a higher weight and height.

However, Miriam says that she will get married to whoever comes her way unless they come as twins like them, but she is not ready to wait for them because even their parents are not twins and they are not sure about the twin linage in their family.

About their way of life, Sarah says that when Miriam has a problem, she will know about it by instinct.

The twins fall sick at the same time though it is very rare.

"As siblings, we usually argue, fight but reconciliation is done immediately," says Miriam.

She adds that being twins is very funny as we pay for each other's sins, enjoy those fun moments, and have a lot of memories from the different people we interact within our daily lives.

According to Natalya Grace Ssebakitta, the headteacher of Luzira Secondary School, there are of sets twins he looks at and wonders how the parents cope up with them since they tend to behave in a certain manner.

He adds that the situation becomes more complicated when they are identical twins who cannot be told apart.
