Alwi targets Pearl of Africa rally

The event on Friday and Saturday, August 2 10 3, 2019 in the districts of Luwero and Kayunga is the fifth round of the Africa Rally Championship (ARC).

 
It will be a grueling and mouth-watering two-day of action in the Shell V-Pearl of Africa Uganda Rally as Ugandan crews battle their foreign counterparts for supremacy.
 
The event on Friday and Saturday, August 2 10 3, 2019 in the districts of Luwero and Kayunga is the fifth round of the Africa Rally Championship (ARC).
 
Hassan Alwi navigated by Siraje Kyambadde in a Subaru N15, are among the local crew aiming to beat defending champion Manvir Baryani in a Skoda Fabia R5.
 
The International University of East Africa (IUEA) sponsored driver is the latest Ugandan to win the event in 2016, and he believes he can stop foreign drivers from winning the trophy.
 
"We won it in 2016, dropped out in 2017 due to engine failure, finished fourth last year, but are out to better last year's results this time," Alwi Stated.
 
Two foreign crews Dharam Pandya from Tanzania and Baryani from Kenya will face-off with  49 locals crews including Jas Mangat, Dr. Ahmed Ashraf, Yasin Nasser, Christakis Fitidis, Ambrose Byona, and Ronald Ssebuguzi.
 
Alwi believes that he can beat the Skoda.
 
"We are not just exciting our fans. We shall push the car where it is necessary but with a major target of being able to finish," Alwi added.
 
The rally which also doubles as the fourth round of the National Rally Championship (NRC) starts with the super special stage in Busiika on Friday before heading for the grueling 192.36kms competitive stages in Kayunga on Saturday.
