Clubs will enjoy a cash prize of sh10 for the winners of this year's NSSF-KAVC International Volleyball Tournament slated for August 2-4 at the Lugogo Indoor Stadium.

The sponsorship of sh180m that was unveiled on Tuesday at Lugogo by the NSSF deputy managing director, Patrick Ayota, will see winners of this year's edition walk away with sh10m, the runners up sh5.5m and the third-place team bagging sh3.7m for both the men and women's categories.

According to Ayota the increase of sponsorship is to motivate the participating teams and help in the smooth running of the event now in its 23rd year.

"We have decided to make this easy for the organisers to run by increasing on the cash support to sh180m and also draw close the attention of players in this year's event, this is to motivate and value the input of each team that makes it to the podium," Ayota said.

The cash support will also go towards hiring competition venues, purchase of competition and technical equipment, cash prizes, accolades for outstanding players, meals, payments of referees and a publicity drive.

Uganda's biggest volleyball open championship in its 23rd year will run for three days different from the previous events that run for two days.

For what is Uganda's biggest volleyball tournament, 40 teams from Uganda, Rwanda, Burundi, DRC, South Sudan, Kenya and Tanzania and for the first time a team from Ethiopia, will take part.

Uganda's KAVC and Ndejje University are the champions for the men and women categories respectively.
