Vision Group gives cancer run sh50m

Vision Group CEO Robert Kabushenga started the day bearing gifts as he handed over a sh50m cheque towards the Rotary Cancer Run set for August 25.

The handover took place on Friday morning at the Vision Group offices where he promised the organisers to help drum up support for a very good cause.

"We are quite happy to support these causes. As Vision Group, we shall do everything to encourage the public to join this effort that is required as Ugandans to build these bankers," Kabushenga said.

The money will help the Rotary Cancer Programme in their bid to raise funds that will help build two bankers that will house two linear accelerators at  Nsambya Hospital.

The organisers need to raise $8m for both the bankers and accelerators which tallies up to sh30b.

"We have been able to put up a cancer ward at Nsambya Hospital which we handed over in 2015, but we lack modern equipment when it comes to radiotherapy. Since 2016 we have been running to raise money to build two bankers which are going to house two linear accelerators," Chairman of the Uganda Rotary Cancer programme Stephen Mwanje remarked.

The cancer run was launched earlier this week and is set to take place on August 25. Organisers hope to raise sh1bn with all proceeds going towards building the bankers and getting the much-needed equipment.
