Parents tipped on child care

“Children should be brought up in a holistic way so that they do not feel different, even if they are brought up outside their homes,”

WAKISO - Parents have been told to care for children to deter them from going to the streets to beg.

Sarah Kalungi, a director at Children Villages Uganda (SOS), said families should build the capacity to take care of their children.

"Children should be brought up in a holistic way so that they do not feel different, even if they are brought up outside their homes," she said.

Kalungi made the remarks while receiving sh6m cheque donated by the Uganda travel bureau to support children at SOS Children's Village at Kakiri in Wakiso district on Tuesday.

SOS children's villages were founded by Herman Gmeiner, an Austrian in 1949 after seeing children suffering after the Second World War. Today it operates in 134 countries around the World.

SOS Kakiri village looks after 111 children and 353 under the family strengthening programme in the communities around Wakiso.

Kalungi said they have extended support to the districts of Kayunga, Ibanda, Soroti, Arua Kabarole and Kyegegwa under the family strengthening program.

Jayne Mbabazi the quality controller Uganda travel bureau said her passion for children has grown ever since she joined Rotary.

Mbabazi said she is happy to see that the SOS children's care is not different from that of a home.

She was grateful to learn that SOS brings up children with a bond of brothers and sisters with full cultural values that make them be like children grown in a family.
