Speeding motorcycle knocks dead 12-year-old child

Police in Rukiga is investigating circumstances under which a 12-year old pupil was knocked dead by a speeding motorcycle.
The victim was a pupil of Rejoice Nursery & Primary School in Rukiga district, in Western Uganda.
According to Elly Maate the Kigezi regional police spokesperson, the deceased has been identified as Mercy Atuheire and the alleged offender is Simon Ariho, a resident of Munkore cell Kamwezi sub-county Rukiga district.
"She was knocked by a speeding motorcycle Baja boxer registration number UEP 293N. The incident occurred on the June 30 at around 10:00 am at Ntaraga along Muhanga-Kisiizi highway, in Rukiga district when the victim now deceased identified as Atuheire was crossing going to church," he said.
According to Maate, the deceased was staying with her grandfather Tindyebwa Livingston but hailing from Nyakishenyi in Rukungiri.
"She died moments later at Mbarara Regional Referral Hospital. The rider has been detained for recklessness and the motor Cycle was impounded for inspection. The deceased was staying with the grandfather in Kitanga cell Kashambya sub-county Rukiga district."
