Ssekandi calls upon NGOs to support education

MASAKA - Vice president Edward Kiwanuka Ssekandi has called upon Non-Government Organizations (NGO'S) to support Government efforts, especially in the education sector.

Ssekandi said this while handling over scholastic materials to selected schools at St. Lawrence primary school grounds in Kitoofari, Kyanamukaka Sub County in Masaka district.

He commended the Minister for the Presidency, Esther Mbayo who linked the NGOs to schools in the 24 districts saying that the multiplier effect of aiding 100,000 students will greatly impact on the performance of students and pupil in the near future.

During the handle over it was revealed that Blockchain Charity Foundation in collaboration with Safe Future Uganda had launched joint efforts to support selected primary schools.

Schools selected will be availed with scholastic materials, Solar lighting kits, learning screens, sanitary pads to reduce school dropout in the selected areas.

The program code name Binance for Children Special Impact Education Project - Uganda to be piloted in areas of Busoga Sub Region, parts of Central Uganda and the Greater Masaka Sub Region aims at benefiting about 200 schools.

According to the Blockchain Charity Foundation Director, Athena Yu, the project is to benefit about two million pupils including one million school-going girls in the selected schools.

Masaka Deputy Chief Administrative Officer, Robert Mutungi appreciated the support saying it will contribute to the progress and future of the children.

He also noted with concern that teacher's accommodation and meals remain serious challenges in motivating teachers, especially in upcountry schools.

Athena Yu Director Blockchain Charity Foundation said that concentrating on the real needs of the youth in school will facilitate more knowledge and increase enrolment, especially for the girl child.
