Uganda's Netball World Cup prospects have been strengthened by the arrival of England- based star Mary Nuba.

Nuba, who returned to the country after a seven-month stint with English Netball Super League side, joined the She Cranes Monday and highlighted Uganda's chances going into the global showpiece.

"I have played and observed others play in the English league and I don't see any big difference with the players back home. I believe we are as strong as any other team out there," Nuba told New Vision.

The former National Insurance Corporation (NIC) star, who promised to share some of her newly acquired skills with teammates, added; "The only difference is on the coaching side. In the UK, a player is monitored independently and corrected where need be unlike here (Uganda) where coaches generalize on team performance with less emphasis on individuals."

Kiwanuka excited

She Cranes coach Vincent Kiwanuka is excited to have Nuba back in the national team.

"She is an asset on the team. I am personally pleased to have her train with her colleagues," Kiwanuka said.

"We can only perform to our expectations if the players bond and develop a good playing partnership. If we could also have Peace Proscovia back home to train with the rest, it would further strengthen the team," he added.

Nuba's arrival in camp grows the number of She Cranes players to 11 with the exception of team captain Peace Proscovia, who plays for Sunshine Coast Lightning in the Australian league.

The current squad undergoing non-residential training includes Stella Oyella, Racheal Nanyonga, Ruth Meeme, Betty Kizza, Jesca Achan, Silvia Nanyonga, Lillian Ajio, Joan Nampungu, Stella Nanfuka, Muhaimina Namuwaya, and Nuba.
