Ssebuguzi and Walubi enter Kenya Safari Rally

The Safari rally will also double as an Africa Championship and Ssebuguzi, Walubi and Leroy Gomes from Zambia are so far the three foreign drivers that have confirmed their entry, according to event CEO Phineas Kimathi.

KAMPALA - Uganda's Ronald Ssebuguzi and Kephar Walubi are among the three foreign drivers that have confirmed their participation in this year's Kenya Safari Rally, a World Rally Championship (WRC) Candidate event due on July 5 to 7 in Kasarani, Nairobi, and Naivasha.

The Safari rally will also double as an Africa Championship and Ssebuguzi, Walubi and Leroy Gomes from Zambia are so far the three foreign drivers that have confirmed their entry, according to event CEO Phineas Kimathi.

Twenty-one drivers including defending champion Carl ‘Flash'Tundo, Onkar Rai, Baldev Charger, Karan Patel, Jasmeet Chana, and Nikhil Sachania all in Mitsubishi Evo10 have so far confirmed participation.

Entries close on June 19 and Kasarani Stadium will play host to the first competitive stage of the event with a 2.5km super special stage that promises to create excitement among the spectators.

The cars will then proceed via a 100km Liaison to the floor of the Rift Valley, west of Nairobi to Naivasha for service and the first overnight Parc Ferme at the Naivasha Sopa Resort.

According to records, Ssebuguzi will be navigated by Leon Ssenyange. Walubi navigated by Anthony Mugambwa will be driving a Mitsubishi Evo10, while Zambia rally ace Gomes, navigated by Urshlla will drive a Ford Fiesta R5.

Ssebuguzi, when contacted, said," Our target is to finish, but most importantly is to get the international experience before we think of joining the Africa Rally Championship contests in the future."
