Volleyball Cranes stumble in Nairobi

n Tuesday, they followed that up with a 3-1 loss to Egypt

The Zone 5 All Africa Games qualifiers were always going to be hard for the Volleyball Cranes but when Tanzania pulled out, the difficulty was elevated.

They lost to Kenya 3-2 in 5 hard-fought sets to open their account on the opening day of the competition. On Tuesday, they followed that up with a 3-1 loss to Egypt but even with those two disappointments, there is no reason to worry as the future looks bright.

First things first, the boys arrived in Nairobi ranked fourth but expectations were high because of their potential. In both matches, they exhibited flashes of brilliance but they have also shown that they needed to have prepared more, for success was within touching distance.

The team got access to the indoor arena in the final week of their preparation which was not ideal.

Lessons

The one department that they struggled with in both matches was in the service. Apart from the second set against Egypt, they failed to string together a number of serves to get leverage in the match and it showed.

Uganda's final match is against Rwanda tomorrow a side that will fancy its chances but Uganda too will draw confidence from their other performances against other opposition.
