GRUESOME: 8 family members killed

Last evenning grief and shock engulfed residents of Nombe 2B village in Kashare sub-county Kashari county in Mbarara district when a woman only identified as Lydia Kyomuhangi, 65 hacked members of her family to death.

Samson Kasasira, the Rwizi region police spokesperson, says at about 8:00pm on Sunday, Kyomugisha, who has been having seasonal mental disorder, hacked her husband, leaving him with serious injuries.

As if that was not enough, she reportedly proceeded to another room where she found her daughter only identified as Annet Kyomukama, hacked her to death, continued to  the kitchen where she found her six grandchildren and hacked all of them to death. She was hours later also lynched by an angry mob.

The Police, led by Mbarara DPC Gad Murungi, visited the scene, but reached when the suspect had already been killed.

Those killed have been identified as Osbert Niwamanya, 8; Oscar Tarimweba, 5; Mercy Owomugisha, 6 months; Claire Ankunda, 5; Adella Orishaba, 9 months and Apophia Kanshabe, 10.

Kasasira noted that Police managed to pick the bodies to Mbarara Regional Referral Hospital for postmortem whereas Hangamisho George (husband) is currently admitted at Mbarara Regional Referral Hospital's Intensive Care Unit.

"We haven't established the motive of this murder, but what we have gathered so far is that Kyomugisha has been suffering from mental disorder, which we think could have resulted into this act," said Kasasira.

He further adds: "It's very unfortunate that the ley suspect in this act was also lynched to death by angry mob, but now the investigations are now going to start with those who carried out the mob action."
