Mubiru names Cranes squad for COSAFA tournament

Uganda will be making its debut as a guest team

Coach Abdullah Mubiru has named the final squad that will represent Uganda at the Council of Southern Africa Football Associations (COSAFA) tournament.

The two-week competition that will kick off this Saturday and run until June 8 will be held in Durban, South Africa.

Mubiru who will be assisted by Livingstone Mbabazi has a 20-man squad made up of two goalkeepers, seven defenders and midfielders as well as four strikers.

Six players; Charles Lukwago, James Alitho, Allan Okello, Daniel Serunkuma, Mustafa Mujuzi and Uganda Premier League top scorer Juma Balinya who were training with the preliminary squad for the Africa Cup of Nations are part of the squad that flies out on Thursday.

Uganda will be making its debut as a guest team in the COSAFA tournament and will enter the competition at the quarterfinal stage on June 1 when they face Lesotho.

The annual tournament is for teams from Southern Africa organised by COSAFA, inaugurated after the ban against South Africa had been lifted and the African Cup of Nations had been staged there in 1996.

Defenders: Willa Paul (Police), Kizza Mustafa (KCCA), Lavita John (Express FC), Isinde Isaac (Kirinya Jinja), Mbowa Paul Baker (URA FC), Hassan Musana (KCCA FC), Mujuzi Mustafa (Proline FC).

Midfielders: Kasozi Nicolas (KCCA FC), Kagimu Shafik (URA FC), Mutyaba Muzamir (KCCA FC), Okello Allan (KCCA FC), Kayiwa Allan (Toro Utd), Balinya Juma (Police FC), Mucurezzi Paul (Mbarara City).

Strikers: Senkatuka Nelson (Brights Stars), Bright Anukani (Proline FC), Bashir Mutanda (SC Villa), Sserunkuma Dan (Vipers SC)
