The Singleton Golf Challenge continued to excite on and off the course as the third edition of the annual championship entered the semi-finals after Saturday's quarterfinals at Entebbe Club.

On the course, golfers did not only have to fight for good scores against their opponents but had to brave an afternoon downpour that slowed down play, causing some two match play games not to end because of bad light.

But earlier, Doreen Mwesigye, missing her partner Wendy Angudeyo single-handedly battled the pair of Tim Mwanda/Suubi Kiwanuka but eventually narrowly lost by two holes; 2&1.

"It was unfortunate that I missed my partner who got an emergency but otherwise, these guys were beatable but we shall return stronger next year," Mwesigye said.

The second match that ended had Andrew Atuhaire/Geoffrey Orach eliminating Raymond Mwesigye/Ibra Bagalana; 3&2, while the matches between Samuel Kato/Charles Odere versus Martha Babirye/Maureen Okura and that of Silver Rugambwa/Ashraf Bagalana versus Robert Busingye/Richard Lutwama did not end and will now be completed mid-week.

The two matches were two holes to being completed and all square respectively when they were stopped due to poor light.

"It was a tough match but we are newcomers and the team we were facing are more experienced in the tournament. But no one took more than a hole's lead because we were all square up to hole 15 and we shared the next two holes and halved the 18," Rugambwa said.

"The course was perfect only that it was a tough match. But we hope to win the sudden death play-off; today we were a bit off but we hope to seal it by Wednesday,"

Isaac Mariera, Pjays Olanya, and Moses Amori were the best individuals in the subsidiary event, in the men's Groups A-C while Sheilla Kesiime and Maxi Byenkya topped the ladies Groups A and B.

There was much more to win even for the losers on the 19th hole as the best dressed as per the day's ‘Cowboy theme and the winners of the trivia quiz winners were also rewarded by Singleton and Victoria Motors.

The event is sponsored by Singleton Whisky, RwandAir, Commercial Bank of Africa, DStv, HTC Hub, Pinnacle Security, Serena, Victoria Motors, Afrisafe, Ekspreso and Street Club.
