Buganda Royal Regatta is on

The Buganda Royal regatta is looking to attract a number of tourists into the country.
 
This was revealed by organizing committee chairman Ben Misagga at the first outing over the weekend at Kiyindi landing site in Najja sub-county, Buikwe.
 
"We want to have the regatta on international standards so that it brings in tourists. We are reviving water sports in Buganda and so many people are excited about this competition. After the weekend outing, all the counties are going to start serious training ahead of the finals," stated Misagga.
 
The Katikkiro Charles Peter Mayiga who was the chief guest pledged, to have the Royal Regatta hosted in different Buganda counties (Massaza).

All the 18 counties managed to take part in the 100m,200m and 400m races as their prepare for the grand finale on June 8 at Nabugabo, Masaka. The competition will be graced by the Kabaka of Buganda Ronald Muwenda Mutebi.
 
Kabula County won the last edition in 2017. They won both the 10km race, sprints, and Ggomba came second.
 
The regatta is organized with different series of boat races such as traditional group sprints, modern canoe sprints, rowing races, long distance swimming among others. On top of that, various events such as music performances will be provided to celebrate the revival of sports.
 
This year's edition is under the theme of enhancing safety, environment and health concerns
