Luwalira condemns continued social injustices

The Bishop of Namirembe Diocese, Rt. Rev. Wilberforce Kityo Luwalira has condemned the continued social injustices in the country, saying this continues to affect the peace of Ugandans.

The Bishop noted that such kind of injustices should not be tolerated in the country.

He decried the continued cases of land evictions, corruption, kidnaps, unexplained killings and other forms of social injustices, saying something needs to be done about it.

Luwalira who was delivering his Easter sermon at Namirembe Cathedral in Kampala, called for the need to promote peace and reconciliation among Uganda to create harmony.

However, he stressed that peace must be exercised at all levels right from the household level.

Luwalira said Jesus Christ preached peace on the number of occasions like in Matthew 5:9 where he says "Blessed are the peacemakers, for they will be called children of God," stressing that "we all need to be complete peacemakers."

"We all need to look up to Jesus Christ to enjoy that peace he talks about. We need to continue being complete peacemakers and reconcile with others to continue with the His mission like his disciples," he noted.

He said the kind of "peace we are talking about" cannot be given by politicians or wealth among others, but by accepting the reconciling work of Jesus Christ.

"When you are reconciling with him, renew your life with him, allow him to take full control of your life and reconcile with one another," Luwalira noted.

He added: "We have been complaining about many issues around us. But I ask you to be the first instruments of peace in your family members and among those you work with."

Luwalira said many have decided to use technology to send "whatever rubbish" through social media.

"If what you are sending out does leave people with peace; why should you send that? Why do you continue abusing and sending obscene words," he noted.

He said people need to mind about the signals they send out there; to ensure they are for peace.

He said if we live in peace with God; then we must live in peace with others and the environment.

He asked Christians to re-examine themselves to see whether they are reconciling with God.

"We must take note of repentance today and ask God to forgive us and lead us in the way we should take. We need to be mindful of our country," he noted.

The service started with praise and worship session where believer sang and prayed along with the choir.
