FUBA to award outstanding league players

Apr 11, 2019

There will also be Player of the Month and Coach of the Month awards

Outstanding players in each of the 222 games of the National Basketball League (NBL) will be recognised for their performance with a ‘Man of the Game' medal.

Addressing a press conference at UOC offices on Thursday ahead of the tip-off of this year's league, FUBA president Nasser Sserunjogi franked by Vice President-Administration Hudson Ssegamwenge and VP Marketing Arnold Katabi, said the awards will go to players in both the men and women categories.

There will also be Player of the Month and Coach of the Month awards aimed at creating a competitive and vibrant league.

The best coaches in each month will also be given cash incentives to be determined after potential FUBA partners have come on board, according to Sserunjogi.

He said the player with the highest efficiency in every game will walk away with the medal.

"We expect a very competitive league that will excite fans because all teams have signed new players and strengthened their sides," Sserunjogi said.

The game is based on statistics so the player with the highest efficiency will take the Man of the Game and Player of the Month Awards.

FUBA has also introduced season tickets that will require a season ticket holder to pay sh500,000/- instead of sh1.2m to watch all the 222 NBL games and sh150,000/- for the 62 games of the playoffs.

Women's commissioner Sandra Ulanga said they were laying out strategies to have more fans come to watch the games.

"We have a big pool we can tap into like the universities and institutions so we shall do our part but we also encourage the teams to do their part," Munduru said.
