Police recover gun, five arrested over robbery and murder

Police from Kira region has recovered a gun and arrested five people who were suspected to be on a mission of robbing traders from Ivunmba village in Budondo Sub County Jinja and Kayunga districts.

According to Onesmas Mwesigwa, the Deputy Regional Police Commander, the suspects are under detention at Nalufenya police. He also alleges that for long, they have been robbing and killing innocent people in the region and surrounding areas.

Mwesigwa explained while briefing the press on Tuesday that through their intelligence and working with other security organs, the gun, serial number 2578-108861 was recovered from Makenke village in Kimka in Jinja municipality.

The suspects include; Sharif Ngobi, Rogers Wabuyenga, Nelson Waidhuba, Lukwago Sulamani Magezi alias Brown and Balikowa, who is suspected to have been in charge of the gun.

He added that three other members of the same group were arrested and detained at Kirinya prisons in February this year.

The Deputy RPC also noted that the same group has been issuing threatening messages to police officers who have been following their operations.

He hailed the communities for being supportive towards their operations saying security is paramount and anyone who thinks they can play around, will be dealt with.

He said they will be charged with unlawful possession of firearms, murder, robbery using firearms and other charges as the government lawyers will recommend.
