Kyaligonza, bodyguards in court today

Kyaligonza, Uganda's ambassador to Burundi, Corp. Peter Bushindiki and Private John Robert Okurut allegedly assaulted Namaganda on February 24 when she tried to intercept them after making a U-turn in the middle of the road.

KAMPALA - Maj. Gen. Matayo Kyaligonza and his two bodyguards who allegedly assaulted traffic police officer Sgt. Esther Namaganda are expected in court today. The trio is appearing before Mukono Chief Magistrate, Juliet Hatanga.

By 9:00am, Sgt. Namaganda attached to Seeta Police Station in Mukono district had arrived at Mukono Chief Magistrate's Court.

The accused are alleged to have assaulted a UBC TV sports journalist, Peter Otai when he tried to capture the incident on camera.  

Namaganda is flanked by her husband, Alphonse Musoni, the Bulambuli District Police Commander.

However, Gen. Kyalagonza had not reported to court by press time, although his defence lawyers led by Caleb Araka are already in court.
