Tororo councilors break into district offices

Apr 08, 2019

Imukutet said they had a bang on the doors and when they came out to find what was happening, the two former secretaries assured her that they had assumed back their offices.

TORORO- Two former Tororo district executive committee members on Friday took civil servants by surprise when they raided the district headquarters and forced themselves back into the office they resigned from over two years ago.

Jacob Opio and Samuel Odongo resigned their executive positions of secretary works and technical services and secretary for health and education respectively in February 2017 demanding for a by-election to fill the vacant position of LC5 following the death of their own Apollo Jaramogi.

They argued that they could not serve under the leadership of Stella Imukutet, the current acting LC5 Chairperson, an Itesot whose six month acting period had expired.

The two also swore never to respect Imukutet as acting chairperson and reportedly went ahead to mobilise voters especially from west Budama counties to rebel against the district chairperson and not to allow her address any public gathering.

However, having lived in political limbo for over two years and missing their monthly salary pay, the two armed to the teeth took the district by surprise when they arrived with their own hired carpenters who helped break each of their offices to allow them access.

Imukutet said they had a bang on the doors and when they came out to find what was happening, the two former secretaries assured her that they had assumed back their offices.

Imukutet said a case of criminal trespass had been lodged against the two councilors at Tororo Central Police Station for failure to follow the right procedure.
