ENTEBBE - To Ugandans that danced sweaty to Awilo Longomba's music in the mid-1990s, they should brace themselves for a treat this weekend following the legendary Congolese star's arrival in the country on Wednesday afternoon (2:30pm to be precise), ahead of his show this Friday at Kampala Serena Hotel.

The revered- Congolese who came with some of his Paris-based band is popular here for his danceable tunes such as Moto Pamba, Cache Cache, Coupe Bibamba, Gate Le Coin and Karolina that got elders and kids dancing away in the good old times. Awilo last performed in Kampala in the 1990s, and so his performance is expected to take soukous fans down memory lane.

He became a star back in1995 when he quit drumming to take up singing, establishing himself as one of Africa's finest artistes of his generation. More so given that Congolese music, particularly the genre Soukous, was one time the staple sound for Ugandans.

Awilo's Friday show, organised by Cents in partnership with Singleton, will also have several top Ugandan artistes perform, including leading gospel act Levixone, Jackie Chandiru, Cindy, among many others.
