KAMPALA-The Peoples' Development Party (PDP) leader, Dr. Abed Bwanika has accused the former Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) president; Col. Dr. Kizza Besigye of sabotaging opposition plans to take over power.

Bwanika who is part of the Democratic Party's (DP) block, said Besigye always keeps coming up with issues when they talk of fronting a single presidential candidate.

"We are seeing Col. Besigye and his team confusing the people of Uganda, that there is no reason for us to bring a unified candidate.

Every time people want to come together and unite, Besigye brings up issues." He advised Besigye to accept and support any other candidate to represent the opposition in the 2021 general elections.

The DP block has so far identified three eligible candidates from whom they intend to choose the best candidate. They are Norbert Mao (DP president), Gen. Mugisha Muntu (Alliance for National Transformation -ANT) and Robert Kyagulanyi (People Power pressure group).

The DP block is an alliance of opposition parties; PDP, People Power, Social Development Party (SDP) and ANT which joined DP to form what they call a formidable force to defeat the ruling National Resistance Movement (NRM) in the forthcoming 2021 general elections.

Bwanika said if truly Besigye and FDC are for the cause, they should stop giving excuses and join the alliance.

He added that if Besigye does not accept people's demands to front a sole candidate; he would have rendered himself dead from the politics of the country.

However, when contacted, FDC's deputy secretary general, Harold Kaija said they have no problem with the DP block coalition and those who want to join it.

"I only urge all the parties in the coalition to first get back to ground to mobilise the people. Words will not remove President Museveni," he added.
