UPDF captain has a case to answer - Court Martial

According to the documents, Nuwagaba is also facing a charge of causing financial loss of the same amount of money.

The General Court Martial (GCM) on Monday ruled that Capt. Justus Nuwagaba, who was a records officer at Bombo UPDF headquarters has got a case to answer in a theft case involving sh665m.

According to the charge-sheet, Nuwagaba stole pension worth sh665m belonging to Dorothy Ayenyi, a widow of the late Lt Peter Ogwang, who died in 2005.

According to the documents, Nuwagaba is also facing a charge of causing financial loss of the same amount of money.

The court set April 8, 2019, on which Nuwagaba, who is on bail, will start defending himself against the charges.

Major Charles Ssekayita, who is representing him, asked the court to extend his bail, which was accepted.

Background

Earlier during the proceedings, Happy Rose, a sister-in-law of the accused testified that Nuwagaba and his wife Penelope Twebaze connived and stole sh665m belonging to Dorothy Ayenyi.
 
She added that after opening up an account at Commercial Microfinance (CMF) in the names of Ayenyi, the money was deposited on the account and Nuwagaba requested her to withdraw the money and that she was only given sh20,000 in the end.
