How Nantaba survived gunmen

State Minister for Information and Communication Technology, Idah Nantaba Erios, is safe, Police authorities have confirmed, refuting media reports that the legislator had earlier been attacked.

However, Nagalama Police is investigating circumstances under which two men riding a silver grey Suzuki sports motorcycle trailed Nantaba, also the Woman Member of Parliament Kayunga District.

Police spokesperson, Fred Enanga said the suspects trailed the legislator in a threatening manner over a distance of 40km, from Sezibwa Bridge up to Nagalama trading centre.

It is alleged that two riders today (Sunday) at around 11:00am rode past the minister's official vehicle, after they made a U-turn, drove back and pulled alongside the roadside market after Sezibwa bridge.

"One of them approached the stall where she was buying fruits and pretended to seek for the direction to Kabimbiri trading centre. His suspicious conduct prompted her bodyguard to respond and they drove off," excerpts of the Police statement read in part.

Nantaba is said to have alerted the police at Nagalama,

According to Enanga, the response teams at Nagalama, pursued them, and after a long chase forced them (suspects) to abandon their sports motorcycle at Nagojje trading centre.

"Several shots were fired in their direction, to cause them to surrender, but all in vain," he said.

However, Enanga said that during the pursuit Ronald Sebbulime,a resident of Nakabugo Village, Nakabugo Parish, Pakiso Sub County, and Busiro County in Wakiso District was shot dead. His accomplice remains at large.
