French Week Celebration: Rugby Cranes v French Army (4.30pm)

Last year, the Rugby Cranes were humbled by the French Army during the French Week Celebrations in Uganda. Put differently, it was a worthy test for the Cranes.

Little wonder Cranes coach Robert Seguya is looking forward to the reunion of the two teams as this year's edition of the same celebrations comes to a climax today at Kyadondo.

"We know they are a strong side," Seguya confessed to New Vision. "But we are going to play our game plan."

Seguya, just reappointed to the Cranes coaching setup - this time as head coach - has earmarked this game as a gauge for his side ahead of a busy international season that includes the Elgon Cup and Rugby Africa Tier 1A games.

Other teams entered in the event include Zambia, Algeria and Tunisia.

"This match will help us measure our ability," Seguya added. "Winning motivates the players so we are going for the win." Seguya takes charge of the Cranes after local body, URU, failed to tie down South African John Duncan to a new deal.

Seguya, having served as Duncan's assistant, is equipped for the continuity necessary to uphold the standards that have served the Cranes well.

He has been "focusing on levels of fitness, basic skills, ball skills and game awareness and I will be assessing that in this game".

The coach selected a 23-man squad for this affair that excluded the Hong Kong-bound national sevens stars.
