Kirinya road gets solar lights worth sh20m

Frances Kabugu, the chairperson of Kirinya Road said the place has been home to thugs due to the various dark spots in the area.

JINJA-Scrapper dealers and metal fabricators along Kirinya road in Jinja town have received solar lights worth sh20m aimed at curbing thefts and insecurity.

"We have been closing our  businesses  as early as 7:00pm because of thugs  in the area but  now we shall be able to prolong our working hours because of the solar security lights,'' he said.

Kabugu said the lights will support over 600 blacksmith operators, however he asked the municipal authorities to improve on the road network in the area for easy transportation of their goods.
 
Jinja mayor,  Majidu batambuze , who launched the solar lights  said council had finalised the process of making an installation of traffic lights worth sh1.5b.
 
The traffic lights will be installed at six points in Jinja municipality aimed at controlling traffic flow.
 
The various points include traffic lights along Nalufunya/ Clive road from Jinja Hospital junction to main street junction, U-turn to Walukuba, Dunlop junction and opposite Jinja Police Station.
 
However he warned people working along Kirinya road to desist from vandalising batteries, solar panels and ensure safety of their properties and businesses.
 
Mehmet Pehlivan  elektronik solar from turkey a company which provided the solar and is also in-charge of installing  traffic lights installation pledged to provide standard lights which will work to  reduce on heavy traffic flow in the town.
