Butime revealed that they will hold a consultative meeting between leaders of Wakiso District, Entebbe municipality and officials from the ministry of local government to finalize the city status plans

The Minister of Local Government Tom Butime says government is set to upgrade Entebbe Municipality to a city status.

Butime revealed that they will hold a consultative meeting between leaders of  Wakiso District, Entebbe municipality and officials from the ministry of local government to finalize the city status  plans.

However, some leaders of Wakiso district want the status to apply to the whole district.

"We thought that Entebbe could become a city and the other areas follow later but if there's a new thinking that the whole of Wakiso should be a city, we shall discuss that and if we agree, we shall move on but that will be a very huge city, which may over shoot the standards of a city in terms of population," says Butime.

Wakiso is one of Uganda's biggest districts with 736.2 square miles and a population of 1,997,418 according to 2014 Census.
