The 2017 USPA personality of the year won a gold medal at the 2017 World Para Athletics Championships

David Emong is laughing all the way to the bank after receiving his sh30m reward promised to him by National Council of Sports (NCS) upon winning a gold medal at the 2017 World Para Athletics Championships in London.

The cash reward was handed over to Emong by state minister for sports, Charles Bakkabulindi, during NCS' team-building retreat in Eastern Uganda.

"I want to break the world record," revealed Emong after receiving the reward.

The 2017 USPA personality of the year who hails from Amolatar in Northern Uganda, is currently undergoing training in Kapchorwa ahead of his next race in August.

In his remarks, Bakkabulindi told athletes to always excel since they will always be rewarded in recognition of their effort.

"This is a testament to a government that delivers on its promises and the more success you bring, the more you motivate us to find all means to improve sports in this country," he noted.

Kapchorwa resident district commissioner Emma Rose Cherukut was among the district leaders that attended the ceremony.

Emong joins a pool of athletes that have been rewarded by NCS after excelling in their different disciplines.

Commonwealth Games medalists Joshua Cheptegei, Stella Chesang, Mercyline Chelangat, Solomon Mutai and Juma Miiro all shared a sh100m prize last year.
